Isopods, also known as mealybugs, are animals that break down organic matter, feeding on everything, including animal droppings, making them ideal for keeping bioactive terrariums.

Unlike insects that have a chitin exoskeleton, these have a calcium carbonate shell, which is why they are a great source of minerals for our reptiles.

They can also be kept as a pet, especially some somewhat rarer and more striking species, which is why there are also species considered to be collectibles.
